Identity V Clerk Guide to Record and Replay

When discussing field control in Identity V, the Clerk stands out as one of the most versatile Hunters in 12BSports strategy coverage. She has enough potential to compete across different tiers and against a wide variety of Survivor team compositions, with strong applications in chasing, chair defense, and cipher machine control. That versatility comes at a price, however, because effective Clerk play demands precise controls, strong awareness, and quick decision-making. Her core mechanic revolves around recording specific actions and then reproducing them through projections, allowing skilled players to reshape the flow of a match.

By holding the ability button, the Clerk can record certain actions performed by Survivors or Hunters. When reproducing a recording, players can choose either forward or reverse playback. For example, if a Survivor is recorded interacting with a pallet, forward playback can reproduce the action and drop another pallet, while reverse playback can restore a dropped pallet to its original position. As the saying goes, the devil is in the details, and these seemingly small decisions can dramatically influence the outcome of an entire chase.

While a recording is active, Survivors also suffer a 20 percent reduction in their pallet and window interaction speed, giving the Clerk another way to restrict their mobility. The range of recordable actions is extensive and includes vaulting pallets, vaulting windows, decoding, healing, rescuing, and even moving through particular areas. A useful example frequently seen in 12BSports tactical scenarios involves recording a Survivor while they are decoding a cipher machine and then playing that action in reverse, causing part of the machine’s decoding progress to regress.

The Clerk is equally effective when actively pursuing Survivors. A player can record a window vault and position the resulting projection near the same location, effectively interfering with access to that window. Around pallet zones, projections can also be placed near corners to force pallets down early or restore them at carefully chosen moments, cutting off a Survivor’s preferred escape route. These variations make recorded actions much more than simple copies. Used intelligently, they create uncertainty, disrupt Survivor decision-making, and greatly improve the Hunter’s chasing efficiency.

For persona development, builds frequently used alongside 12BSports tactical approaches favor Detention, Trump Card, Hunter’s Instinct, and Tinnitus. The Clerk can sometimes struggle to secure guaranteed hits during direct one-on-one pursuits, so strengthening her finishing potential is especially valuable. As an external trait, Blink is generally more useful than Teleport when the goal is to compensate for her relatively limited ability to close short distances during a chase. Proper timing with Blink can turn a difficult pursuit into a decisive hit before a Survivor reaches another safe area.

Overall, the Clerk can have a harder time against Survivors who depend less on pallets and windows, particularly highly mobile characters such as the Acrobat who can navigate terrain using their own abilities. Even so, her true strength depends on how strategically the player uses Record and Replay rather than relying on conventional chase mechanics alone. Mastering these tools also provides valuable information about the battlefield, including cipher machine activity and Survivor positioning, giving experienced players more opportunities to control the match from a broader perspective.

In the end, the Clerk remains a Hunter whose effectiveness can rise dramatically with practice, and players refining her techniques through 12BSports strategy resources can benefit from studying different maps and experimenting with multiple recording routes. Her results depend heavily on awareness, timing, and the ability to anticipate what Survivors will do next. By learning when to record, when to reverse an action, and where to place projections, players can unlock far more of her potential and turn one of Identity V’s most demanding Hunters into a powerful field-control specialist.
